Selkirk Lapwing Press
the best contemporary poetry from both sides of Hadrian's Wall
Selkirk Lapwing Press is a small poetry press. We specialise in producing distinctive collections of poetry by writers whose work in our opinion deserves wider circulation and recognition.
We never publish unsolicited poetry. Publication is by invitation only. To avoid disappointment, please do not send us your still-unseen Collected Works.
We are interested in poets living in south Scotland and north England. That takes in a deliberately ill-defined area which includes – in Scotland – Dumfries and Galloway and Scottish Borders, and also perhaps Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Lothian; and in England, Cumbria and Northumberland, as well as County Durham and Tyne and Wear.
It has been objected that our chosen area does not hang together in any logical way. Precisely! We are fed up with conventional ways of bundling up people, or being told who we can talk with and share with. We aim to let poets from Darlington converse with poets from Dumfries, and poets from Coldingham talk to poets from Kendal.
We are proud to have published eight small collections of poetry in the past year and a half. Many of these are genuinely outstanding. You can find details of all of them here.
We have also just published a much bigger collection of poetry, an anthology of the best contemporary verse from south Scotland and north England – poetry from Both Sides of Hadrian’s Wall. This anthology is supported by the Scottish Arts Council. The book was launched at a Big Poetry Day held at the County Hotel, Selkirk, on 18 November 2006. Regional events took place in early 2007 in Carlisle, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Dumfries and Edinburgh.
